First Aid at Work (FAW)
Gain the confidence, knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively to workplace emergencies.
What is First Aid at Work?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) course is a comprehensive, three-day training programme designed to equip individuals with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to provide first aid in the workplace.
Whether responding to a minor injury or a life-threatening emergency, this course prepares participants to act quickly, safely and effectively when someone needs help.
The course covers a wide range of workplace injuries, illnesses and medical emergencies, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), severe bleeding, choking, fractures, burns and other potentially life-threatening conditions.
Through a combination of practical demonstrations, hands-on activities and realistic workplace scenarios, participants develop the skills needed to assess an emergency, provide appropriate first aid and support a casualty until professional medical assistance arrives.
On successful completion, participants receive a First Aid at Work qualification, which is valid for three years.
Who is this course suitable for?
The First Aid at Work course is ideal for employees, managers, supervisors and designated workplace first aiders who need to provide first aid in their organisation. It is particularly suitable for workplaces where a first aid needs assessment identifies a requirement for more comprehensive first aid provision, including:
- Construction, manufacturing and industrial environments.
- Warehouses, logistics and distribution centres.
- Offices and corporate workplaces.
- Schools, colleges and educational establishments.
- Leisure centres, gyms and sporting facilities.
- Hospitality, retail and public-facing businesses.
The course is also suitable for individuals who wish to develop their first aid knowledge and gain a recognised qualification.
What will you learn?
By the end of the course, participants will have developed the knowledge and practical skills to:
- Assess an emergency situation and provide appropriate first aid.
- Perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Assist a casualty who is unconscious or experiencing breathing difficulties.
- Respond to choking, severe bleeding and shock.
- Recognise and manage common medical emergencies, including heart attacks, strokes, seizures and diabetic emergencies.
